Chemical Drain and Waste Piping Installation
Industrial and laboratory facilities that handle solvents, acids, caustics, and other process chemicals cannot discharge these waste streams through a standard sanitary drain system. Solvent waste, acid waste, and mixed chemical waste streams require dedicated specialty waste piping systems — chemically resistant, properly sloped, vented to prevent vapor accumulation, and routed to appropriate pretreatment or collection before any connection to the building drain or the municipal sewer. Installing a specialty solvent waste system correctly means protecting workers, protecting the environment, and keeping the facility in compliance with local, state, and federal discharge regulations.
Lovett Mechanical installs specialty solvent waste and chemical waste drain systems for pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, semiconductor, and manufacturing facilities across Syracuse, NY, Onondaga County, and Central New York.
Specialty Waste Systems We Install:
Solvent Waste Collection and Drain Systems
Facilities using flammable or halogenated solvents require waste collection systems in chemically resistant materials — typically PVDF, borosilicate glass-lined pipe, or other fluoropolymer drain systems — with appropriate bonding and grounding for static dissipation and vapor-tight construction to contain volatile organic compounds. Venting connects to dedicated solvent vapor exhaust rather than building sanitary vent systems.
Acid and Caustic Waste Piping
Acid waste systems collect waste from laboratory sinks, fume hood drain connections, and process equipment in facilities handling acids. Materials are selected for compatibility with the acids used — high-density polyethylene (HDPE), PVDF, or polypropylene for most acid waste applications, with borosilicate glass-lined systems for hydrofluoric acid-containing waste streams. Acid neutralization systems are integrated at the collection point before discharge.
Mixed Chemical Waste and Segregated Waste Collection
Many facilities require segregated waste collection — separate drain systems for incompatible waste streams that must not be mixed, such as solvent waste, aqueous waste, and acid waste. We install segregated waste collection piping with appropriate identification, isolation valves, and connection to dedicated collection vessels or pretreatment systems.
Secondary Containment Piping
For high-hazard chemical waste streams, secondary containment — a pipe-within-a-pipe or containment trough design that captures any primary pipe leak before it reaches the environment — may be required by regulation or by facility risk management standards. We install double-containment piping systems for solvent waste, acid waste, and other high-hazard applications.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety
Specialty solvent waste systems must comply with local sewer use ordinances, EPA pretreatment standards, and applicable fire and building codes for hazardous liquid waste handling. Our systems are equipped with these requirements in mind and document installations to support regulatory compliance records. Our installations are performed with appropriate chemical safety protocols for the hazard level of the waste stream being handled.
